Sealing up a leaky floor - Fort Worth, Texas

Case study: Sealing concrete floor

Customer: AA Credit Union

Problem: Water leaking done to floors below

Solution: Apply flexible membrane to floor

Preparation:
The concrete surface was ground to remove the concrete sealer that was applied to the concrete when it was poured and to give my coating a good surface to bond to. Once the grinding was completed all cracks in the concrete where repaired along with all floor penetrations (drains, pipes, ECT.) with a flexible elastomeric chalk.

Coating application:
A 20 mil base coat of flexible epoxy was applied to the floor using a notched squeegee and back rolled with a 1/4 inch roller. Once the base coat had dried a 5 mil top coat of polysiloxane was applied to give the customer an abrasion resistant, easy to maintain finish.

Summary:
Once or twice a year my customer does routine maintenance on their boilers which can flood the floor with water. Certain areas would leak to the floor below ruining ceiling tiles. The problem areas where around support columns that penetrated the floor and around some drains.
